Every photographer has their own style and personality. I feel it is important to find a photographer that you like. It will be reflected in the pictures.
This is why I feel it is essential to meet with couples to discuss the type of pictures they want and the type of pictures I want to take. I like to liberate wedding photography from the traditional conveyor-belt feeling. To this end I prefer a more relaxed approach.
This doesn't mean I will just snap whatever is taking place. "Reportage" photography is all the rage and can be done incredibly badly leaving couples a few years down the line with an album of snapshots that their friends could have done better.
When done properly, however, this more unobtrusive style of working can ensure that the couple has time to meet with their friends and family - one of the main reasons for the event - yet allow me to produce a portfolio of stunning images.
Some couples are worried that the photographer will insist on posing them making them very uncomfortable, especially in front of their guests. While I will always keep this to a minimum a certain gentle guidance may be required to ensure the best is made of the dress, hair etc. I want these to be pictures you will want to look at for the rest of your lives.
I am a qualified associate member of the British Institute of Professional Photographers and the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photogaphers
